  • John Cambier

    President

    John Cambier is a co-founder, Partner and CFO at IDEA Fund Partners, a Durham-based venture capital fund. He has extensive experience serving on the Boards of both for-profit companies and non-profit community organizations. John has his undergraduate degree from Michigan State, and his MBA from UNC. John rowed in college and is an avid athlete, cyclist and indoor cycling coach. John lives in Durham with his wife, Alissa Dix, and two dogs, Rosie and Oliver.

  • Deborah Sorin

    Treasurer

    Deborah Sorin is Senior Advisor at The Challenges Group, a UK-based international development consultancy, where she specializes in financial modeling. Deborah holds a BA in Economics and East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University where she rowed for a year on the beautiful Connecticut River. Deborah spent the decade after university in finance (investment banker, equity analyst, and in corporate finance at troubled Fortune 500 companies). Since moving to Durham, NC, she has served on many nonprofit boards. She is also a JLRC parent.

  • Ashley Myles

    At-large

    Ashley Myles is an Account Executive with ABC 8NEWS WRIC, in Richmond, VA. Ashley has extensive experience coaching rowing, including being an assistant rowing coach at Washington College, UNC, and George Washington University. Ashley has her undergraduate degree from Washington College, and additional certifications in marketing. Ashely rowed in college, coached for years, and is an avid athlete with a particular passion for rowing. Ashley volunteered with JLRC and is excited to bring her boots-on-the-ground knowledge to the JLRC Board.

  • Kimberly Harris

    At-large

    Kimberly Harris has been volunteering with local non-profit organizations for over 20 years. She spent several years as a Guardian Ad Litem representing Wake County foster children, led the foundation of the Exploris School, and has countless hours of school service for all grades. Kimberly is passionate about social justice and currently works with the Wake County Community Remembrance Coalition. She has no experience rowing, so devotes her time to administrative aspects of the club. Kimberly and her husband, Jason, and their 4 kids love to travel, and she is excessively attached to her two cavaliers, Chance and Lucy. Kimberly is also thrilled to be a JLRC parent.

  • LAURIE TURNER

    At-large

    Laurie Turner is a Vice President of Professional Services for Salesforce. Laurie brings extensive experience in sales and management. Laurie coordinates teams of volunteers effectively seeing projects through to completion with JLRC. Laurie received her degrees from the University of Guelph and Concordia University. Laurie’s daughter found her passion for rowing with JLRC, and Laurie believes in the mission and community of JLRC and the importance of the opportunity we offer to area youth. 

  • Paul Harvin

    At-large

    Paul Harvin works in commercial real estate at The Rosemyr Corporation in Henderson, NC, and rows with CHaOS Rowing, which shares facilities with JLRC at Jordan Lake. Paul began rowing in 1999 while studying engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and has continued ever since. After graduating, Paul moved to Durham, where he coached the freshman men's rowing team at Duke (2005-2008) while working as an engineer at Cisco Systems. Paul continued with the sport as he pursued his education and profession, rowing with Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya while earning his MBA at IESE Business School and with Marin Rowing Association and the Dolphin Club while living and working in finance, data analytics and business development in San Francisco. Paul is pleased to be able to give back to the sport and community by helping to ensure that Triangle area youth have the opportunity to learn to row at JLRC.

Governance

Jordan Lake Rowing Club Inc was incorporated on January 5th, 2016 as a non-profit corporation in the State of North Carolina.  We are organized ‘exclusively for charitable, religious, educational or scientific purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the lnternal Revenue Code and we were granted 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status by the IRS on October 24th, 2017.

Our purpose is to expand the opportunity to try rowing to more youth and adults in North Carolina and to foster the growth of the sport nationally and internationally.  

We work to

  • Promote the sport of rowing

  • Teach and train youth to row without discrimination of any kind.

  • Provide the equitable means for both recreational and competitive rowing, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally; and

  • Develop the sport of rowing as an interscholastic sport in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area
